EMS PIPELINE SERVICES ANNOUNCES PGAS 6.1:
THE NEW RELEASE OF THE LEADING GAS MEASUREMENT SOFTWARE
HOUSTON, September 21, 2004 –
EMS Pipeline Services, a leading pipeline operations and maintenance service provider, today introduced PGAS 6.1, a state-of-the-art upgrade to PGAS, the widely accepted standard in natural gas measurement systems. EMS Pipeline Services is a business unit of Energy Maintenance Services Group l, LLC (EMS Group).
The highly flexible and open architecture of PGAS 6.1 gives users more control over how data is gathered, validated, edited, reported and disseminated. Developed on the scaleable Microsoft.Net development platform, PGAS 6.1 offers greater scalability, reliability and security.
“We listened to the PGAS Users Group and responded with the enhanced functionality and improved ease-of-use in PGAS 6.1,”
said Art Robbins, chief strategy and information officer for EMS Pipeline Services. “It is easier than ever to navigate across the system, manage information, and automate report distribution.”
The release of PGAS 6.1 builds upon the long-term success of PGAS, which is used by numerous gas production, transmission and distribution companies to efficiently manage records related to production volume, gas quality and delivery transactions.
Improvements in PGAS 6.1 include the following:
- A new open and flexible architecture developed on the Microsoft.Net framework;
- Enhanced import process using a flexible, open XML interface to capture data from a full range of sources;
- Improved validation capabilities to flag errors or anomalies as they occur to catch and manage potential problems quickly;
- Improved gas balancing features to reduce lost gas through near real-time calculation and reporting of pipeline balances;
- A new summarization capability calculates hourly, daily and monthly totals to shorten processing times related to reporting and interfacing to downstream systems;
- A new Audit View function that facilitates compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulations;
- A new Audit Notes feature that works like an electronic sticky note to enable users to post explanations of their edits; and
- A new multi-tiered design that automatically distributes processing demand to middle tier computers to enhance system performance.
A number of factors are driving increased demand for PGAS 6.1, including increased reliance upon technology, increased regulatory scrutiny and demands for corporate accountability related to Sarbanes-Oxley. Other factors include industry consolidation and trading fluctuations related to deregulation, and the fact that companies are increasingly dependent upon having access to detailed, timely and accurate information to support their decision-making process.
PGAS 6.1 also has been enhanced with a number of special features, including the use of XML to make the import process easier and more flexible.
PGAS 6.1 also includes enhanced validation, a drill down viewer and greater automation through a task scheduler.
“The enhanced validation features of PGAS 6.1 shifts the effort of validating and reviewing the data from a manual, tedious process to a highly efficient automated process,” said Ken Cessac, PGAS senior measurement specialist. “PGAS identifies the problem data so users can focus on resolving exceptions rather than reviewing all data.” EMS Pipeline Services offers a full range of services to help companies implement PGAS 6.1, including training, data migration, interface development, system enhancement and ongoing support and maintenance.
